My work investigates the roles that competition, repetition, and the endless chase of perfection play in adult life. In my drawing and screen prints objects that serve athletic functions layer and commingle with the human figure, operating as relics and symbolic references of life lessons, relationships and memories. Growing up, I was obsessed with athletics. The majority of my earliest memories revolve around playing and watching sporting events. While most kids grew up idolizing their favorite professional athletes, I didn’t have to look any further than my own home. My father, Michael Beaty, was an accomplished athlete and passed along his knowledge, as well as an obsessively competitive drive.
