Special Comments from the Director of Graduate Studies
The School of Art + Design distinguishes itself, as part of a preeminent public research university, through its leadership in visual literacy, design thinking, critical inquiry, and material problem solving. The artists and designers represented here are innovators of new strategies for more sustainable relationships with the planet and its people; they are creators new, user-centered products and experiences to enhance entrepreneurial culture and promote sustainability, and they are opening their studios to reveal new ways of creative engagement with materials, art making strategies, and art audiences, revealing truths about the world, human perception, cognition, and identity through the infinite array and endless variety of artistic invention. These works and their makers are needed in the world, perhaps now more than ever, and we celebrate the unique contributions these practitioners will make.
